Discover how a user-centred solution helped JTC reduce manual effort, improve visibility, and accelerate cash conversion.

Overview
Rapid organisational growth often brings operational complexity.
For global professional services firm JTC, inefficient time recording processes were creating delays in billing cycles, impacting productivity, and limiting management visibility.
To address this, JTC partnered with C5 to design a user-centred, secure and scalable Time Recording application that simplifies time capture, reduces administrative effort and establishes a foundation for future automation.
The Challenge
Accurate and timely time recording is central to effective billing - yet JTC’s existing tools made this difficult. Time entry processes were:
- Disconnected from core systems
- Slow to use, with repeated manual steps
- Reliant on underutilised core platform functionality
- Inefficient, contributing to six week billing cycles
These challenges resulted in wasted effort, inconsistent data quality and limited visibility of activity completion. Leadership needed clearer insight into productivity trends and exceptions, while users needed an intuitive way to record time without interrupting their workflow.
JTC sought a new approach: one that was fast, secure, user-friendly and built to integrate with their core platform in the future. It needed to capture structured data for dashboards, highlight incomplete records and ultimately help the business convert work to cash more efficiently.
Our Approach
Working in close collaboration with JTC’s IT team, we adopted an agile, iterative delivery model. This ensured rapid validation, continuous stakeholder engagement and the flexibility to adapt features based on real user behaviour.
The prototype solution was developed as a responsive web application within the JTC Fabric environment. By focusing on user experience from the outset, we ensured that the interface was clean, minimal field, and tailored to individual needs - removing unnecessary friction from the daily process of logging time.
Key design principles included:
- User-centred workflows that reduce cognitive load
- A consistent and secure experience aligned to JTC’s governance model
- Structured data capture to support both current reporting and future automation
- Scalability through integration-ready architecture
This collaborative approach strengthened working relationships and ensured every feature aligned with JTC’s operational goals.
The Solution
The resulting prototype delivered a streamlined, modern experience for JTC teams:
A responsive application designed for speed
Users can record time entries quickly, customise them, or pull relevant information directly from the core platform. Every action is optimised to reduce effort and improve accuracy.
Structured SQL-backed data
All time entries are stored in a consistent, structured format, ensuring the solution is ready for seamless integration into the core platform and other systems at scale.
Dashboard driven visibility
Realtime dashboards support:
- Progress tracking
- Identification of incomplete or missing time
- Better oversight of activity completion rates
- Accurate insight for management decision making
A secure, future-proof foundation
Developed within the Fabric environment and aligned to C5’s ISO certified quality and security practices, the prototype is designed to grow with JTC’s evolving operational needs.
Impact
Even at prototype stage, the benefits were clear:
- Faster, easier time capture for users
- Reduced manual intervention across teams
- Improved data quality enabling better decision-making
- Greater visibility of billing activity
- A validated blueprint for a fully integrated, automated billing process
This proof of concept demonstrates how thoughtful, user-centred design can transform a core operational process. By combining sector expertise with Microsoft-aligned architecture, C5 helped JTC create a scalable digital solution that will support continued growth, efficiency, and improved cashflow management.
Looking Ahead
With strong validation and positive user adoption, JTC now has a clear foundation for expanding and automating its billing process. The prototype establishes the technical and design principles required for wider rollout, deeper integration, and further efficiency gains across the organisation.
This project reinforces our belief that well designed digital solutions don’t just improve processes — they accelerate organisational performance designed digital solutions don’t just improve processes — they accelerate organisational performance.
