C5 celebrate Women in Tech Week

October 10, 2019
Marie Floury on International Women's Day

To celebrate Women in Tech Week, we asked our Application Support Analyst, Marie Floury, some questions about her career in tech.

What route did you take to get into tech?
I started my career in finance, as many Channel Islanders do. At my end of probation interview I mentioned my interest in IT. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to move into an IT support position the next day and I haven’t looked back.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the variety of work and the constant change, there is always something new to learn and new technology to explore.

What advice do you have for women looking to get into tech?
Don’t be intimidated; technology evolves fast, which can be overwhelming but there are so many resources available to build your knowledge, even if you are considering moving into IT from another industry. I have always felt welcomed by my male colleagues.

Which women in tech inspire you the most and why?
Margaret Hamilton is a great inspiration; she was a working mother and pioneer of software engineering in a climate where it was a lot harder for women to find employment in technical roles.
