Life at C5: Spotlight on Managed Services

You might imagine starting a career in IT means you need to be fluent in code and have the latest qualifications. We’re looking for something different. We can teach you the technical skills; the most important thing to us is whether you can deliver excellent customer service. Joe Cabral

How long have you been at C5?

I started working at ITEX back in 2006 in the Operations Department, but left in 2008 to go travelling. When I returned, the company had become C5 Alliance.

What is your current role?

Head of Operations and Service Desk.

How did you get to here?

I started as an Operations Technician providing IT support 24×7 and went on to become a Shift Leader. I was appointed Operations Manager in 2014 and have recently been promoted to Head of Operations and Service Desk.

What does your average work day look like?

Every day has new challenges. My role involves engaging with clients, whether that be producing reports on the support we provide or engaging in new business opportunities.

When you were at school, what were your career aspirations?

I did take GCSE ICT, but I had no idea what I wanted to be…I was too interested in having fun!

What do you see as your next step?

Taking ownership of my new role and embracing my new responsibilities.

What are your long-term career goals?

I’d like to continue my development into management.

If a friend asked you for a tip on working in IT, what would you say?

Work on your people skills, not everybody thinks in code! Customer service is key.

What do you love most about your job at C5?

Easy…the people!

Gerry Calisto

How long have you been at C5?

I started in the ITEX Operations team in 2008. After four years I joined their Managed Services Infrastructure team as a Second Line Engineer. With the company move to C5 Alliance I progressed further and last year I was promoted to Managed Services Consultant.

What is your current role?

Managed Service Consultant and team lead for a local banking organization. I manage seven guys and keep on top of service management, team training, procedures, compile reports and ensure service improvement remains on track.

How did you get to here?

I’ve moved up the ranks from Operations to Consultant. This is thanks to the great opportunities and challenging projects presented to me. My strong focus on customer service and technical ability has definitely helped.

What does your average work day look like?

It varies. In general, it’s ensuring my team remain focused on priorities and overseeing the Managed Service. I attend client meetings and guarantee their expectations meet our deliverables and deadlines. I’m also involved with ad hoc pieces of work, changes and the governance of implementing them.

When you were at school, what were your career aspirations?

I was always interested in computers, how they worked and wanted to understand them. I also aspired to become a DJ and although I’m not currently in Ibiza, I do still get to play regularly on the island #livingthedream.

What do you see as your next step?

I want to be a Senior Consultant by continuing to work hard, as well as building up my certifications.

What are your long-term career goals?

For now, I’m focused on short term goals – my current client commitments and upcoming projects.

If a friend asked you for a tip on working in IT, what would you say?

Find a specific area that interests you. There’s nothing better than getting paid for doing something you love.

What do you love most about your job at C5?

It’s 100% the people that I get to work with and the variety of work that always keeps me on my toes.

Jack Gowlett

How long have you been at C5?

Just over 9 months in the Operations Department.

What is your current role?

Operations Technician.

How did you get to here?

I left my previous job as an apprentice electrician and saw this job advertised. I came in for an interview and knew it was for me!

What does your average work day look like?

No two days are ever the same, we don’t do average!

When you were at school, what were your career aspirations?

I did have an interest in tech but never thought of it as a job.

What do you see as your next step?

My next step is to work towards getting my CompTIA A+ qualification and becoming a Shift Leader within the Operations Department.

What are your long-term career goals?

I’m just letting things plan themselves out at the moment.

If a friend asked you for a tip on working in IT, what would you say?

Find an aspect of tech that excites you. You need to have a passion for IT to succeed.

What do you love most about your job at C5?

The best thing about this job is the people I work with and the environment in the office.
