Matt Thornton

Matt has an experienced background in Business Technology Consultancy. As a Consultant, Matt is focused on deriving maximum benefit from the pragmatic use of current and emerging technologies.

Matt has extensive experience in software development and systems integration in a range of environments and is an advocate of a ‘simplest is usually best’ approach to technology projects.

He has spent the past 10 years in the Guernsey financial services, insurance, local government and retail sectors, with primary experience in software development, database design and data warehousing and business process modelling in key technologies such as .NET, SharePoint and Microsoft SQL Server.

Matt’s recent consultancy work has predominantly been in the SharePoint and Business Intelligence suite, with a focus on DMS, workflow, systems integration, business intelligence and management reporting. He has project managed large application and infrastructure projects from start to finish, including a 5 year multi-faceted programme of business improvement resulting in significant tangible benefits (time and cost savings) to the client.

Matt holds a PhD in Remote Sensing & Computer Science, and has presented scientific research at international conferences to full auditoriums of technical and non-technical people. More recently, he has presented on emerging technology such as Blockchain, cloud and other emerging technology, particularly with a view to the impact (and opportunities) these hold for the Channel Islands.

Fun fact: Matt’s claim to fame is that he (may have) sat next to Tim Peake on a flight simulator when enrolled on the early stages of the European Space Agency Astronaut Selection programme.
