FinVention initiator invites financial services businesses to FinVention 2017

November 1, 2017

FinVention initiator and C5 Alliance managing director, Marc Lainé is urging all financial services businesses to attend FinVention 2017 to ensure they fully understand the scope and pace of digital technologies impacting their businesses.

Mr Lainé said he wanted as many Guernsey and Jersey financial services businesses to attend the second inaugural FinVention event on Wednesday, 15 November at St James.

“Some business people may feel that an event like this, which focusses on the increasing use of digital technology, may just be for those working in tech or for business entrepreneurs – that’s not the case.

“Digital services and tools are consumed by almost every citizen and business; it’s important that all businesses, particularly board members, leaders and those who use, or will use, these new technologies, understand how digital can and is being applied,” he said.

“While the financial services sector is an early adopter of digital technologies, every business and citizen in Guernsey is already greatly enmeshed in it; digital services and tools are consumed by almost every citizen and business and FinVention is designed to expose all that digital can do to further enable businesses.”

FinVention is increasing the range of activities for delegates this year. Last year 100 delegates attended the inaugural event with 50 participants and this year organisers are hoping to have 180 people taking part.

Combining three central themes – Digital Guernsey, Great People and Great Innovations  – FinVention 2017 will be an interactive one‐day forum showcasing ‘the best of breed’ in innovative technological products and services in the FinTech, digital and start‐up sectors.

The FinVention stage will feature a number of fast-paced presentations from individuals and companies who have products and services at different stages of development including at least two from Jersey.

Keynote Speaker is the compelling Alastair Lukies CBE who will talk about pushing the boundaries of conventional and unconventional wisdom. Guernsey’s Dario Crispini, who won the Queen’s Award for Innovation when his firm Kaizen developed a system which revolutionised the way regulatory reports are tested, will also be there.

“The finance sector is one of the first to fully exploit digital opportunities – so if you work in financial services then FinVention is for you. If you sit on a board and want to better understand the digital sector then FinVention is for you,” Mr Lainé said.
